Residents of Washington State may have a special interest in confronting the burden of past—and ongoing—injustices in the immigration system, but it falls to people across the country to overturn the legacies of figures like Albert Johnson and the ongoing, bipartisan xenophobia that lives on beyond him.

Three immigrant justice campaigns for unemployment benefits and health care for undocumented immigrants and greater support for asylum-seekers brought hundreds of people together at a rally Wednesday in Olympia.

Hundreds of immigrant justice advocates rallied Wednesday in Olympia, calling on lawmakers to fund healthcare for all of Washington’s low-income immigrants regardless of status and to fund unemployment insurance for undocumented workers.

Each week, community members are watching as detainees at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma are taken to King County’s airport to be put on a deportation flight. They’re hoping to call attention to the mistreatment of deportees and ultimately, once again, put an end to the deportation flights.

In October 2017, Andrea Soroko Naar and Diane Baer were at the annual fundraiser for Casa Latina... Christian and Muslim groups were given shout-outs for their support of the organization, as well. Soroko Naar and Baer left the Westin Hotel that night resolved to bring Jewish groups up to speed with the movement.
